An active weather pattern ahead but it’s also a complex pattern which the computer models have trouble with.
A very strong ridge sitting north of our area should help deflect a system to the south in the Thursday-early Friday time frame, but this ridge is forecast to weaken a bit this weekend which could cause a system over the weekend to track a little farther north, and if this is the case, then a more widespread snow event would be possible in the Northland in the late Saturday-Sunday time frame, but any snow that we see in our area through Friday shouldn’t amount to much, with anywhere from a dusting to a couple inches of accumulation possible in some parts of the area.
First snow event late tonight through Wednesday will impact western portions of the Northland including areas of north-central Minnesota where the greatest snow amounts are expected.
Here’s my snowfall forecast through 6 PM Wednesday.
For Duluth: Less than an inch of snow late tonight through Wednesday.
Snow will develop later tonight in north-central Minnesota and this snow will likely continue through much of the day Wednesday. Areas farther to the east might see a little light snow or flurries at times on Wednesday, this would include Duluth and far northwest Wisconsin.

Here’s my preliminary snowfall forecast for Thursday-Friday.
Again, the trend in the models is for this late week system to track farther south which isn’t surprising given the strength of the ridge across central Canada.
For Duluth — A trace to 2 inches of snow is possible between 12 PM Thursday and 12 PM Friday.
A third system could impact the Northland this weekend but we’re still looking at that ridge (outlined in yellow on map) sitting north of Lake Superior so will see how this system trends on the computer models over the next few days, but right now it looks like the system this weekend tracks farther to the north/east to affect the Northland with some snow from late Saturday into Sunday.
