Merry Christmas!
-A wet and mild storm continues through Tuesday.
-More rain and drizzle ahead with some freezing rain in far northern Minnesota.
-Areas of fog especially near Lake Superior through Tuesday.
-Gusty northeast winds near Lake Superior this afternoon through Tuesday with wind gusts of 30 to around 50 mph. Strongest winds occur tonight through around mid-afternoon Tuesday.
-Additional precipitation amounts (mostly rain) of 0.50″ to 1″ are possible in Duluth through Tuesday evening.
-Duluth just recorded its warmest Christmas Eve on record, and also our warmest Christmas Day on record dating back to the 1874 with new record highs set both days.

A warm airmass will continue to push northwest into our area through Tuesday, but surface temperatures of around 30 to 32 degrees in far northern Minnesota could lead to some freezing rain and ice accumulations of around 0.05″ to 0.20″ this afternoon through Tuesday.
Note — The potential for freezing rain in Duluth continues to be very low through Tuesday.

We will be seeing some strong northeast winds near Lake Superior including in the Twin Ports this afternoon through Tuesday with wind gusts of 30 to around 50 mph possible. Winds will start to diminish Tuesday night.

Snowfall forecast

Lots of records broken in Duluth on Christmas Eve (12/24)
- Record high temperature of 48 degrees. Previous record was 47 degrees set in 1881.
- Record warm low temperature of 41 degrees. Previous record was 36 degrees set in 1877.
- Record precipitation total of 0.85″. Previous record was 0.77″ set in 2009. And that storm back in ’09 was part of a major winter storm in Duluth with 2-day snowfall totals around 2 feet!
Note — Duluth has also set a new record high temperature today with a high of 46 degrees. The previous record high on Christmas Day was 44 degrees set in 1999.
