- Rain changes to snow showers and flurries from west to east late tonight/early Friday morning.
- Snowfall accumulations of up to an inch possible in parts of the Northland late tonight-Friday morning.
- 1 to 3 inches of snow possible in parts of northwest Minnesota tonight.
- Blustery west winds with gusts to 30 mph tonight and Friday.
- Temperatures trend colder on Friday with highs in the 20s to lower 30s and these cooler but really just closer to normal temperatures linger into this weekend with highs in the 20s to lower 30s both Saturday and Sunday.
Duluth area: Rain showers this evening. Rain changes to snow showers early Friday morning around 2 AM to 5 AM. Snow showers and flurries at times during the day Friday. Total snowfall accumulations <1″. Gusty west winds 20 to 30 mph develop tonight and continue into Friday. Temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s on Friday.

A strong area of low pressure was located near Bemidji Minnesota late this afternoon. This low will continue to track toward the northeast through Friday morning with no further strengthening expected.

Seeing a broad mid and upper-level trough across the northern Plains, upper Midwest and central Canada today. This trough will exit to the east on Friday.

In the warmer air southeast of today’s low we’re seeing scattered strong to severe thunderstorms develop this afternoon in parts of southern Wisconsin into north central Illinois where dew points have risen into the upper 40s to lower 50s this afternoon, while elevated CAPE has climbed to around 200-900 J/kg.

We’ve seen several reports of hail <1″ diameter with the storms this afternoon in parts of the Midwest, and more recently a brief tornado was reported 2 miles south of Henry Illinois at 4:42 PM today.

Quite the system lifting north/northeast across the upper Midwest today.
