Isolated to scattered showers will continue across the Northland this evening and will likely return once again on Thursday all thanks to an upper-level trough digging southeast into the upper Midwest.
We’ve also seen a few isolated thunderstorms popup in parts of the Northland this afternoon with some weak instability over the area, and similar conditions are possible Thursday afternoon as some weak instability remains over the area.
Meanwhile, another trough will lift northeastward from the southern Plains tonight, and this trough is expected to merge with the one currently over the upper Midwest. This merger is forecasted to take place over the Midwest and Ohio Valley region later on Thursday, before the entire system moves eastward and exits on Friday.

Cooler temperatures are on the way for Thursday with highs in the 50s in the Northland, but this is actually still a little above normal for this time of the year.
Note: Northwest winds will become a bit gusty Thursday into Friday with wind gusts of 15 to 30 mph expected.

Next week’s forecast includes a strong upper-level trough and a low-pressure area moving northeast from the Rockies. This system may affect the Northland from next Monday to Wednesday (April 15-17), bringing additional rain and gusty winds. However, prior to its arrival, another system will pass through the area on Saturday night into early Sunday morning, potentially bringing a few showers to parts of the Northland.

It appears that a significant portion of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin may receive an inch or more of rain from early to mid-next week.
