- A few weather systems are expected later this week and into the weekend, bringing with them a possibility of rain.
- Expect areas of frost tonight and once more on Tuesday night.
So far this month, average temperatures in the Northland have been approximately 2 to 3 degrees warmer than usual — See below.

Early Tuesday morning, there’s potential for more frost in areas of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin (indicated by the blue area on the map) with temperatures dipping to as low as 30 degrees.

Uncertainty remains about the paths of a few systems later this week into the weekend, which will dictate the amount of rain the Northland receives from late Wednesday through the weekend.

Looking farther ahead shows the pattern remains somewhat active across the area with a potential for 1-2″+ rain totals over about the next 2 weeks or through May 28th.
Today, the air quality in the Northland has seen a significant improvement over the poor conditions experienced on Sunday. The thick wildfire smoke that had drifted southeast from western Canada and settled at the surface has now largely remained in the upper atmosphere, thanks to improved mixing.
Elevated smoke levels are expected to persist in the Northland area through Wednesday, though they are not anticipated to be as severe as those experienced on Sunday.

Today, particularly near Lake Superior, temperatures have significantly dropped due to an easterly wind that emerged, resulting in a decrease of about 15 to 25 degrees by 2 PM compared to the same time on Sunday.
Late this afternoon, temperatures within approximately 15 miles of Lake Superior ranged in the upper 40s to 50s, while areas farther inland experienced milder temperatures, reaching the upper 50s to around 70 degrees.
