Mainly dry Wednesday-Thursday; Some rain possible at times late Thursday night into early next week

Scattered showers are expected to continue into this evening, followed by a few dry days. However, the likelihood of rain increases again late Thursday night or Friday, continuing at times into early next week.

Regarding the late-week rain chances, it seems that there will be some rainfall late Thursday night into Friday morning. Additionally, there may be some redevelopment of rain late Friday afternoon into Friday night, primarily in parts of northwest Wisconsin and possibly in far eastern Minnesota.

Patchy frost is possible in parts of the Northland, primarily inland from Lake Superior, late tonight and again on Wednesday night.

  • Frost Advisory (blue area on map) in effect from 1 AM to 7 AM Wednesday for parts of northern Minnesota including the cities of International Falls, Bigfork, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Ely, and Grand Marias.
  • Temperatures as low as 35 degrees will result in frost formation.

Today, an upper-level trough persisted over the upper Midwest and Great Lakes, while a ridge at the upper levels remained centered over the Rockies. This ridge is expected to shift eastward in the coming days.

Showers are moving southward across much of the Northland this afternoon and are expected to cease by mid to late evening.

It appears that the heaviest rainfall from Thursday night into Friday is forecasted to occur well to the west/southwest of the Northland, with the Northland itself expecting lighter precipitation.

The region experienced widespread cloud cover today, once again, due to a lingering trough over the area.

A cool pocket settled over the upper Midwest and extended into central Canada today, while to the west and south, warmer temperatures prevailed. In the far southern and southwest US, significant heat was experienced.
