Severe thunderstorms quickly emerged in northeast Minnesota late this afternoon, leading to three reported tornadoes near the Cotton and Canyon areas. Further tornado reports may arise as the National Weather Service in Duluth carries out storm surveys on Friday.

- 5:14 PM: Tornado. 1 ESE Cotton, MN (St. Louis County) Roof shingles torn from two-story home and debris strewn.
- 5:06 PM: Tornado. 4 N Canyon, MN (St. Louis County) Tornado reported crossing Highway 53 north of Canyon.
- 5:05 PM: Thunderstorm Wind Damage. 3 N Canyon, MN (St. Louis County) Multiple trees down along the Highway.
- 5:03 PM: Hail 1.00 inch. Sturgeon Lake, MN (Pine County) Quarter sized hail.
- 4:20 PM: Hail 0.88 inch. 6 NNW Ely, MN (St. Louis County)
Late afternoon severe thunderstorms have resulted in power outages across parts of northeast Minnesota. Lake Country Power has reported 12 outages impacting 387 members as of approximately 8:30 PM on Thursday.

Late this afternoon, scattered strong and severe thunderstorms developed rapidly across northeast Minnesota and extended into far northwest Wisconsin.
