A low-pressure system moved further north than anticipated, leading to significantly lower rainfall totals in Duluth than forecasted earlier today. By 8 AM Sunday, Duluth Airport recorded only about 0.15 inches of rain, rather than the expected half-inch or more.

Areas north of Duluth, along the trajectory of the low-pressure system, have recorded notably higher rainfall totals. Reports indicate that regions such as Hibbing, Virginia, Aurora, Ely, Isabella, and Silver Bay received between one inch and 1.50 inches of rain. Specifically, Silver Bay reported 1.63 inches of rainfall by 8 AM Sunday.

Persistent rainfall is anticipated to last throughout much of today in northwest Wisconsin and along the North Shore of Lake Superior in northeast Minnesota until the early afternoon. Concurrently, intermittent showers are predicted for the rest of northeast Minnesota, encompassing Duluth.

Expected additional rainfall in the Duluth area is around 0.10 inches or less today.

Higher accumulations ranging from a quarter to half an inch, and up to an inch locally, are anticipated over parts of northwest Wisconsin, particularly along the South Shore of Lake Superior and the North Shore northeast of Duluth.

A low-pressure system near the Apostle Islands on the South Shore of Lake Superior is expected to move southeast today, bringing gusty winds and cooler temperatures in its wake.

A potent upper-level low and trough situated over the Northland early today will persist in moving southward and eastward.

The areas depicted in orange, red, and pink on the map below are experiencing the most intense atmospheric lift, indicating where the heaviest rainfall is expected to occur today.
