-A Wind Advisory will be in effect for the North Shore of Lake Superior, including Duluth, on Monday morning. Expect northwest winds with gusts ranging from 35 to 55 mph in the advisory area. The strong winds may cause tree limbs to fall and lead to some power outages.
Strong winds are anticipated late tonight and into Monday morning due to a tightening pressure gradient and a surge of cold air advection after an area of low pressure passes to the north/east of the Northland tonight/early tomorrow morning. Winds are expected to diminish Monday afternoon.
Note: In the Northland, 850mb temperatures are projected to be between +3 and +6°C this evening, but by 6 AM Monday, they’re anticipated to fall to approximately -5 to -10°C. Such a shift in air masses typically results in a period of strong winds.

Northwest winds of 15 to 30 mph are expected in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin starting from mid to late this evening, continuing into Monday morning. The winds are anticipated to weaken from west to east by Monday afternoon.
Peak wind gusts ranging from 35 to 55 mph may occur, primarily near Lake Superior, from overnight into Monday morning.
Note: The forecast indicates that winds will intensify in Duluth this evening, primarily after 8 PM, with the peak wind gusts anticipated after midnight and continuing until approximately 6-8 AM on Monday morning.
NAM 3km model wind gust forecast valid from 6 PM Sunday to 3 PM Monday.

Potent winds aloft, ranging from 70-90 knots at 500mb (approximately 18,000 feet), are forecasted to sweep southeastward across the Northland tonight into Monday morning. This activity is associated with the southern flank of a low-pressure area that is expected to traverse western Ontario and approach the vicinity of Lake Superior.
NAM 500mb forecast valid 9 PM tonight to 3 PM Monday.
