Heavy Rainfall Hits Northland: Flood Advisory in Effect

The Northland experienced a significant soaking last night and today, with widespread rainfall measuring from half an inch to over an inch. Reports indicate that the North Shore of Lake Superior received between two to three inches of rain.

In the Duluth area, rainfall amounts ranged from 1.56 inches to a high of 2.28 inches.

A flood advisory is in effect until 11:30 PM this evening for portions of the North Shore of Lake Superior including Duluth, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Beaver Bay, Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, Gooseberry Falls State Park, Castle Danger, Finland, Illgen City, Little Marais, Larsmont, Knife River, Stoney Point, French River, Alger and Palmers.

-Excessive rainfall is expected to cause flooding. Areas with poor drainage will overflow. Rivers or streams will have elevated flows.

-The Baptism River near Beaver Bay was near minor flood stage but appears to be cresting.

-Little additional rainfall is expected but high water will continue as runoff makes it way to the rivers and streams.
