Forecasting near Lake Superior has been challenging early this morning. East winds blowing from the warmer waters of the lake have maintained precipitation as rain, while colder temperatures at higher elevations away from the lake have resulted in snow.
As of 3:20 AM today, 1.4 inches of snow have accumulated at the top of the hill at the Duluth Airport.
