The weather pattern shifted to a colder phase around late November, near Thanksgiving, and this cool trend has largely continued into the first half of December, aside from a few instances of warmer weather. However, it seems that the pattern is transitioning to a warmer phase as we get into Christmas week and possibly beyond.

- Superior, WI: -3.8 degrees below normal
- Duluth, MN: -3.7 degrees below normal
- Brainerd, MN: -3.1 degrees below normal
- International Falls, MN: -1.7 degrees below normal
- Hibbing, MN: -1.2 degrees below normal
Average temperatures so far this month are running colder than normal in much of Northland.
International Falls, MN: 14.1 degrees, -0.8 degrees below normal.
Hibbing, MN: 14.9 degrees, normal.
Duluth, MN: 17.3 degrees, -2.4 degrees below normal.
Brainerd, MN: 18.4 degrees, -1.3 degrees below normal.
Ashland, WI: 20.5 degrees, -2.2 degrees below normal.

Orange and Red: Above normal

International Falls, MN: -23 on the 12th
Hibbing, MN: -21 on the 13th
Duluth: -18 on the 12th
Brainerd: -13 on the 12th
Ashland: -12 on the 12th
Note: Duluth has recorded 3 subzero nights so far this month. The normal in December is 9 subzero nights.
It’s been some time since we’ve experienced more days with temperatures below normal than days with temperatures above normal in this area.
Thus far, in Duluth, 63% of the days this month have recorded temperatures below the normal range, while 37% have experienced above-normal temperatures.
