Thursday’s disturbance, which will bring a little snow to the Northland, is currently moving into the northern Plains late today. This disturbance will cross the Northland Thursday, bringing enough lift with it to generate some snow. Accumulations will be minor, but there still could be enough snow to produce some slick spots on the roads during the afternoon-evening.
There’s another chance for accumulating snow this weekend; more on that further down in this post.

-Duluth is running -4.4 inches below normal in snowfall this month and -26.4 inches below normal for the season.
-Snowfall total to date is very similar this year (13.8 inches) to last year (12.2 inches).
4 subzero nights so far this month in Duluth. The average in January is 15 subzero nights.
Here’s my updated snowfall forecast for Thursday
- Duluth area: Around an inch of snow
- 1 to 2 inches of snow across north central Minnesota.
- An inch or less of snow for northeast and eastern Minnesota and all of northwest Wisconsin.

Duluth area: Some snow is expected Thursday afternoon-early evening roughly from around 2 PM to 7 PM.
NAM 3km model simulated radar forecast valid 6 AM Thursday to Midnight Friday.
