Northeast Minnesota experienced record-breaking cold this morning, with Hibbing hitting a new daily low of -19 degrees for December 4. The previous record for this date was -17 degrees, set back in 1991.

Meanwhile, Ashland, Wisconsin matched its record low of -9 degrees for December 4th, a mark originally set back in 1972.

This morning, December 4, 2025, Duluth hit a low of -12 degrees, the coldest temperature since February 18, 2025, when it dropped to -17 degrees.

On average, Duluth experiences 9 subzero nights in December, with a record of 23 in December 2013. So far this month, there have been 2 subzero nights, but that number is expected to rise in the coming weeks.

This morning, several areas in northern Minnesota saw temperatures plunge to -20 degrees or colder, with Brimson dipping as low as -27.
