Active Winter Weather Pattern for the Upper Midwest

The weather ahead looks pretty active, with a few clipper systems expected to move southeast from western Canada. If these lows take the right path, parts of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin could get a few inches of snow from each one, with better chances next week than in the coming days.

RAP model simulated radar forecast through 6 PM Saturday.

From tonight through late Saturday afternoon, Duluth will likely see less than an inch of snow. Meanwhile, far northern Minnesota and the Arrowhead could get around 1 to 2 inches tonight, and areas farther west and south might see higher totals from a clipper moving through on Saturday.

Looking at next week’s temperature pattern, it’s clear the upper Midwest will be under a mostly northwest flow, bringing colder-than-normal conditions. Meanwhile, much of the western U.S. will enjoy warmer-than-average temperatures thanks to a ridge.

On the maps below, blue and purple show below-average temperatures, while orange and red represent above-average temperatures.

The ensemble model forecasts (EPS, GEFS, and GEPS) are shown below for the period of December 7–12, 2025.
