This weekend, northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin can expect occasional showers and a few thunderstorms, mostly from late Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening. Rainfall between Saturday night and Sunday should range from about a quarter to three-quarters of an inch, with the chance of locally heavier amounts.
Severe weather is unlikely in our area this weekend, but Sunday afternoon into early evening could bring a few isolated stronger storms as a warm front moves north, ushering in warmer, more humid air.
Near Lake Superior, including Duluth, temperatures will likely remain in the upper 30s and 40s Sunday afternoon, while inland areas may climb into the 60s and 70s, with southwest Minnesota possibly hitting the 80s.
The Euro model’s lightning flash density forecast indicates higher chances of lightning in the Northland late Sunday afternoon into early evening. We’ll see if these trends continue over the next few days.

The first real wave of humid air this spring will move north on Sunday, with dew points rising into the 50s across much of east-central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, and a few spots possibly reaching 60 degrees by Sunday afternoon.

Sunday’s weather will bring a classic spring pattern, with east winds keeping areas near Lake Superior much cooler, while inland spots enjoy warmer temperatures. This setup could also cause some fog to develop near the lake from Saturday night into Sunday.

On Monday, the risk of severe thunderstorms will rise later in the day and carry on through the night in the yellow-shaded area on the map, covering the southern half of Minnesota and parts of western and southwestern Wisconsin. This is tied to a low-pressure system that could bring more rain to the Northland from Monday night through Wednesday next week.

One thing seems pretty clear in the long term: an active weather pattern is likely to stick around, with ensemble models predicting about 2 or more inches of precipitation in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin over the next two weeks.
