A cold morning in the Northland.
Here are the low temperatures for April 8, 2025, compared to the normal low.
Hibbing, MN: 6 (normal low 22)
International Falls, MN: 10 (normal low 23)
Duluth, MN: 14 (normal low 27)
Brainerd, MN: 14 (normal low 28)
Ashland, WI: 17 (normal low 26)
A clipper system is moving southeast from western Canada through Thursday. It won’t carry much moisture but will bring enough to cause some precipitation in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin on Wednesday and Thursday.
The temperature profile will be borderline for all snow with this system, instead we’re likely to see precipitation alternating between snow, a rain/snow mix, or all rain, then reverting to snow in some parts of northeast Minnesota.
The best chance for slushy snow accumulation is from late Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning, with some areas in north central and northeast Minnesota possibly receiving a trace to an inch of snow, and up to 2 inches along the North Shore of Lake Superior.

Precipitation totals ranging from a trace to as much as 0.25 inches are possible in much of northeast Minnesota and far northwest Wisconsin by Thursday afternoon, with the Arrowhead of Minnesota likely missing out on a lot of this precipitation.
There’s a big temperature difference on Wednesday, with highs ranging from the 30s in northeast Minnesota to the 60s in the southwest.
Breezy northeasterly winds are expected near Lake Superior and Duluth, with gusts up to 30 mph from Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday morning.
This weekend, a low-pressure system and upper trough will move east-northeast from the northern Plains. It will likely bring scattered rain showers to the Northland from Saturday night into Monday. Some thunderstorms may happen on Sunday, and by Monday, there could be snow showers in northern Minnesota as the system moves out.
