Forecast Discussion for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin

Tonight-Tuesday Night (June 25th-26th)

An area of high pressure will move off to our east with southerly winds returning to the Upper Midwest on the backside of that high.  Clear to partly cloudy skies are expected with lows Tonight in the 40s and 50s.  Highs on Tuesday will be in the 70s and 80s except for cooler temperatures along the North Shore of Lake Superior.  Lows Tuesday Night will be in the 50s and 60s.  Dewpoints will continue to be on the comfortable side into Tuesday with readings mainly in the 50s to around 60 degrees.  Winds through this period will be out of the south or east at 5 to 15 mph.

Extended Forecast, Wednesday-Friday (June 27th-29th)

The most uncomfortable day will be on Wednesday as dewpoints surge into the 65-75 degree range, drier air moves back in for Thursday and Friday.  A cold front will pass through our area Wednesday and stall out south of us for Thursday and Friday.  Still looks like a very capped airmass along and ahead of the front on Wednesday, as a result there will be little chance for rain despite a very unstable atmosphere.  A stray shower or thunderstorm can’t be ruled out for Thursday and Friday, but most of us should stay dry.  High temperatures will be in the 70s and 80s during this period with some locations possibly reaching the 90s on Wednesday.  Low temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s for Wednesday Night and Thursday Night.

Long Range Forecast (June 30th-July July 6th)

As I stated 24 hours ago, the long range period has the potential to turn a little more active at times with the chance for a few showers or thunderstorms during this entire period…Again though, no all day rain is expected, and not every day will be wet.  The pattern consisting of a W/SW 500mb flow could be conducive for convective development in the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, but it’s hard to pinpoint what day/s will carry the greatest chances for rain.  Stay tuned.  Temperatures are forecast to be near to above average through this period.
