Today’s Weather Summary for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
High pressure of 1022mb covered Southern Manitoba. This high brought plenty of sunshine to our area This Afternoon with pleasant late June temperatures which ranged from the 60s near Lake Superior to the 70s elsewhere. These temperatures Today are right around to a few degrees below average. Winds were from the north or east at 5 to 15 mph with higher gusts near Lake Superior.
Today’s Upper Level Analysis:
Water vapor satellite imagery and RAP model analysis reveals a NW flow covering the Upper Midwest. A large upper level ridge stretched from the Northern Rockies and Western High Plains, through the Central Plains and Southern Plains. Upper troughs were over the Pacific Northwest and Eastern Canada. 850mb temperatures as of 7pm ranged from +10 to +12C in Northern Minnesota to +14 to +18C in Western, Central, and Southern Minnesota.
Forecast Discussion for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Tonight through Monday Night (June 24th-25th)
High pressure will settle into the Upper Midwest during this period. Clear to partly cloudy skies are forecast with lows Tonight in the 40s and 50s. Highs on Monday will be in the 70s to around 80 degrees with cooler temperatures along the North Shore of Lake Superior. Lows Monday Night will mainly be in the 50s. Winds will be out of the north, east or south at 5 to 15 mph.

Extended Forecast, Tuesday-Thursday (June 26th-28th)
This period looks generally free of rain at this time and it also looks very muggy, especially on Wednesday. High pressure shifts to our east on Tuesday with southerly return flow developing in the Upper Midwest. Highs on Tuesday will be in the 70s and 80s with cooler temps along the North Shore of Lake Superior. A cold front moves through our area for Wednesday and Thursday. An axis of deep moisture will lift north into our area on Wednesday with dewpoints getting into the 65-75 degree range along with PWS >1.25″. This area of very humid air will shift back toward the south/east for Thursday. The atmosphere looks very capped near the cold front during the middle of the week with H7 temperatures of +14 to +18C, so although it will become quite unstable…This layer of warm air aloft should result in a dry frontal passage in the Northland. Highs for Wednesday and Thursday will be in the 70s and 80s with lows Wednesday Night in the 60s.

Long Range Forecast (June 29th-July 5th)
The potential does exist for a few showers or thunderstorms from July 1st-5th, by no means will it rain every one of those days, but the computer models are showing signs of a somewhat more active pattern possibly developing for the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest during the 1st week of July. Temperatures are forecast to be near to above average through this period.
