A flood warning remains in effect for the Mississippi River near Aitkin affecting Aitkin County.
*At 4 PM Saturday the stage was 16.8 feet.
*Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
*Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
*The river will fall to a stage near 16.7 feet by Tomorrow Evening.
*At 17.0 feet pumping begins at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

A flood warning remains in effect for the Mississippi River at Fort Ripley affecting Morrison and Crow Wing Counties.
*At 3 PM Saturday the stage was 11.3 feet.
*Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
*Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast
*The river will continue to fall to near 11.2 feet by Tomorrow Morning.
At 11.0 feet this will cause minor flooding of rural areas near Fort Ripley.

Today’s Weather Summary for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
A great summer day across the Northland with sunshine, warm temperatures, comfortable humidity, and gentle breezes from the north. Highs were mainly in the 80s with Afternoon dewpoints in the 50s and wind speeds of 5 to 15 mph.
Today’s Upper Level Analysis:
A large ridge of high pressure stretched from the Rockies through the Plains to Ohio Valley and Eastern U.S. per RAP model analysis while a W/NW flow was found north of this ridge from North Dakota to Lake Superior through the Northeast U.S. 850mb temperatures as of 4 PM ranged from +14 to +16C in Minnesota.

Forecast Discussion for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Tonight through Sunday Night (July 7-8th)
High pressure will be centered to our west-southwest while another high moves into Western Ontario on Sunday. In between these highs will be a weak cold front which will settle south through the Northland late Tonight and on Sunday.
This front combined with weak instability may lead to a few showers or isolated thunderstorms Tonight, mainly in Cass, Itasca, and Koochiching Counties, Minnesota. Cass Lake, Walker, Bigfork, and Northome, and International Falls are a few cities that may see a shower or two at some point Tonight. The rest of Northeast Minnesota and all of Northwest Wisconsin will stay dry Tonight. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected during this period with lows Tonight and Sunday Night in the 50s and 60s with highs on Sunday in the 70s and 80s.
A few showers or thunderstorms could develop at times on Sunday in Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin, but this threat will end from north to south by the Afternoon/Evening as the cold front exits our area.
Not looking at anything severe Tonight or Sunday with weak instability and wind shear in place, but remember lightning is possible from any thunderstorm along with a brief downpour. So if you have outdoor plans This Evening and again on Sunday, keep an eye to the sky and be prepared to move to safe shelter should a thunderstorm approach your area.

Extended Forecast, Monday-Wednesday (July 9th-11th)
NW flow aloft will prevail early next week with mild temperatures. For the most part this period looks dry, but a shower or thunderstorm can’t be ruled out during the Afternoon-Evening hours. High temperatures will remain in the 70s and 80s with lows Monday Night and Tuesday Night in the 50s and 60s with some 40s in the typical cool spots for Monday Night.
Long Range Forecast (July 12th-17th)
Mid/upper level flow should remain from the west or northwest with temperatures at or above normal through this period. The possibility does exist for a few showers or thunderstorms at times during this period, due to possible disturbances that move in from the Northern Plains or Canada, or because of weak troughs/fronts that approach from the west.
