-High to Very High Fire Danger for Today in parts of Northwest Minnesota. (MNDNR)
*61% of the U.S. is in drought. New Hampshire, and New England were completely drought free. Much of Arkansas was is in Extreme or Exceptional Drought as of July 10, 2012.
-48.74% of the state is Abnormally Dry which is up from 41.84% last week.
-24.07% of the state is in Moderate Drought which is up from 14.86% last week.
Much of Northwestern Minnesota and portions of Southern Minnesota is where moderate drought conditions exist.
-83.32% is Abnormally Dry which is up from 74.45% last week.
-63.27% is in Moderate Drought which is up from 52.56% last week.
-33.02% is in Severe Drought which is up from 24.76% last week.
-6.05% is in Extreme Drought which is up from 5.60% last week.
-0.31% is in Exceptional Drought.
-The latest long term Palmer Drought Severity Index continues to show that Northwestern Minnesota needs to get 9-12″ of precipitation to eliminate the long term drought conditions.
-The good news is that the drought is not forecasted to get any worse in Minnesota through September 30th, 2012. Some improvement in the drought is expected in Northwest Minnesota.
