High pressure of 1025mb covered the Upper Midwest and Central Plains Today with mostly sunny skies prevailing throughout the Northland. Highs ranged from the upper 60s to lower 70s with west, southwest, or northwest winds at 10 to 20 mph.
Today’s Upper Level Analysis:
Water vapor satellite imagery and RAP model analysis shows a NW flow covering the Upper Midwest Today with a vigorous upper trough with it’s 60-150 meter 12 hour height falls moving east through Eastern Ontario and the Eastern Great Lakes. 850mb temperatures as of 1 PM ranged from +8 to +12C in Minnesota.

Tonight (August 5th)
High pressure will slide off to our south/east during the night. Clear-partly cloudy skies will be found in our area with lows in the 40s and 50s. May see some patchy fog develop after Midnight. Winds will be out of the west at 5 to 15 mph.

Monday and Monday Night (August 6th)
A cold front will move southeast and through our area from late Afternoon into the nighttime hours. Doesn’t look like there’ll be much moisture to meet up with this front. Dew points will generally be in the 55-60 degree range with 850mb dew points increasing to around +10C. Partly to mostly cloudy skies can be expected with the possibility of a few showers or thunderstorms, mainly in Northern Minnesota and the Arrowhead, possibly down along the North Shore of Lake Superior. Highs Tomorrow will be in the 70s and 80s with lows Tomorrow Night in the 50s to around 60 degrees. Southwest winds at 10 to 20 mph are forecast on Monday with winds Monday Night out of the north or west at 5 to 15 mph.

Extended Forecast, Tuesday through Thursday (August 7th-9th)
Looks mainly dry on Tuesday with highs in the 70s and 80s. There is a chance for a few showers or thunderstorms from Tuesday Night into Wednesday Evening as a weather system heads SE out of the Northern Plains. In general a NW upper level flow pattern will persist into the middle of the week which will keep the big time heat well to our west and southwest. High temperatures for Wednesday and Thursday will be mainly in the 70s. Lows Tuesday Night and Wednesday Night will be mainly in the 50s.
Long Range Forecast (August 10th-15th)
A northwest flow pattern looks to continue during most of this period with a possible pattern change toward more of a SW flow by the 13th-15th. There may be a few opportunities for showers or thunderstorms as we head into early the following week, or after August 12th. Temperatures are forecast to be near to slightly below normal through this period.
