A very nice summer day with sunny to partly cloudy skies with highs in the 70s. Winds were light from the south or east at around 10 mph.
Today’s Upper Level Analysis:
An upper low-trough was in place over the Eastern Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and portions of Eastern Canada while a fairly strong disturbance drops SE out of the Western Dakotas per water vapor satellite imagery. An upper level ridge remained intact across the Western-Southwest part of the U.S. per RAP model analysis with a NW flow continuing across the Upper Midwest. 850mb temperatures as of 5 PM were around +13 to +14C.

Tonight (August 11th)
Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy in our area with lows in the 50s, but a few spots could dip into the 40s depending on sky conditions. Patchy fog might develop Overnight, and there might be a few rain showers after Midnight, mainly around the Brainerd Lakes region.
Sunday and Sunday Night (August 12th)
A low pressure disturbance will drop SE through the Upper Midwest. Rain/showers associated with this feature should stay generally south of our area, but a few lighter showers may affect the Brainerd Lakes, Pine City, Siren areas with dry conditions for the rest of Northwest Wisconsin, the Arrowhead, North Shore areas of Northeast Minnesota. A cold front approaching from the NW might trigger a few showers or isolated thunderstorms Sunday Afternoon-Night across Northcentral Minnesota, or from International Falls and Hibbing, west to Bigfork, and south toward Cass Lake. Highs Tomorrow will be in the 70s to around 80 degrees with lows Tomorrow Night in the 50s to around 60. Winds will be out of the south, west, or north at 5 to 15 mph.
Extended Forecast, Monday through Wednesday (August 13th-15th)
A weak cold front will drop SE through our area on Monday, isolated showers or thunderstorms can’t be ruled out as this front passes, but the majority of our area should stay dry the way it looks now. Highs on Monday will be in the 70s with lows Monday Night in the 40s and 50s. Dry weather is forecast on Tuesday with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. Showers or thunderstorms are possible for next Wednesday as a more potent cold front tracks across the Upper Midwest. Highs on Wednesday will be in the 60s and 70s.
Long Range Forecast (August 16th-21st)
A shot of very cool air is looking more and more likely for late next week and there could be some patchy frost in the traditional cold spots next Thursday Night and possibly again for next Friday Night (16th-17th) Looks mainly dry from the 16th-19th. Milder temperatures may return to the area for the 20th-21st along with a chance for showers or thunderstorms. Temperatures will be below average for the 16th-17th with near to below average temperatures for the 18th-21st.
