-It was also a pretty dry week with only 25% of normal rainfall in Duluth.

Today’s Weather Summary for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Partly to mostly cloudy skies in our area Today with high temperatures generally in the 70s. Winds were light at around 10 mph. The majority of the Northland stayed dry Today, but a brief sprinkle/light rain shower may have occurred in a spot or two.
Today’s Upper Level Analysis:
A well developed disturbance is moving east-southeast across the Upper Midwest per water vapor satellite imagery with a NW flow redeveloping behind this system across the Northern Plains. 850mb temperatures as of 3 PM ranged from +10 to +12C in Minnesota.
Forecast Discussion for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Tonight (August 12th)
A cold front moving into Northwest Minnesota late This Afternoon will settle south/east Tonight and is forecast to reach Northwest Wisconsin by dawn. A few showers or isolated thunderstorms may occur with that front, mainly in Northcentral Minnesota. Severe weather isn’t expected with little instability to speak of along with little to no wind shear. There could also be a few brief sprinkles and or light rain showers before 8 PM in Eastcentral Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin due to aforementioned disturbance passing through Iowa and Southern Minnesota. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are forecast Tonight with patchy late night fog possible. Lows will be in the 50s with 40s in the typical cool spots. Winds will be out of the northwest or southwest at around 10 mph.
Monday and Monday Night (August 13th)
A cold front will track SE through Northwest Wisconsin on Monday, may see a few isolated showers develop with that front, otherwise it looks dry during this period with partly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the 70s with lows in the 40s and 50s. Winds will be out of the north or west at 10 to 20 mph.
Extended Forecast, Tuesday through Thursday (August 14th-16th)
Tuesday will be a pleasant summer day with high pressure moving through our area, highs will be in the 70s with lows in the 40s and 50s. Changes take place on Wednesday as low pressure and a cold front cut through the Upper Midwest. This looks like it will be a fairly strong system, so it needs to be watched for the possibility of generating a few severe thunderstorms around the Northland for Wednesday Afternoon/Night. Right now the computer models are showing sufficient amounts of wind shear, instability, moisture, and some strong winds in the mid/upper levels of the atmosphere to support some strong or severe thunderstorms for midweek. Low pressure passes NE of our area on Thursday with the cold front exiting to our east. A very cool airmass moves in behind this system for later this week.
High temperatures on Wednesday will be in the 70s and 80s with lows Wednesday Night in the mainly in the 50s. Highs on Thursday will be mainly in the 60s with lows Thursday Night in the 30s and 40s.
Long Range Forecast (August 17th-22nd)
Unseasonably cool temperatures continue on Friday (17th) In fact we could see some scattered frost in parts of Northern Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin both Thursday Night and Friday Night of this week. Temperatures may modify a bit next weekend into the following week, 18th-22nd. Looks like a pretty dry period overall, but a few showers or thunderstorms may move into the Upper Midwest toward the 20th-22nd. Near to below normal temperatures should be the rule through this period.
