Today’s Weather Summary for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin

A wet and cool day as strong low pressure moves through Southern Minnesota and into Western Wisconsin Today.  Rain was widespread to the north of this system Today with the aerial coverage and intensity of the rain diminishing from northwest-southeast during the Afternoon hours.  Highs Today were in the 40s and 50s with east or north winds at 10 to 20 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph occurring near Lake Superior.

Short Term Forecast – Confidence:  High.

Tonight (October 15, 2013)

Low pressure will move from Western Wisconsin to Eastern Upper Michigan by dawn.  Areas of rain and drizzle will linger Tonight mainly over East Central and Northeast Minnesota into Northwest Wisconsin with generally dry conditions in far Northern Minnesota.  Partly to mostly cloudy skies are forecast with lows in the 30s to lower 40s.  Winds will be out of the north at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 40 mph continuing near Lake Superior until around mid-Evening.

Wednesday and Wednesday Night (October 16)

Looks dry Tomorrow as low pressure moves into the Eastern Great Lakes.  Some sunshine should return to the Northland on Wednesday with highs in the 40s and 50s.  A weak cold front will move through the area Tomorrow Night but no precipitation is expected.  Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected Wednesday Night with lows in the 30s and 40s.  Winds will be out of the west, southwest, or northwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Extended Forecast – Confidence:  High.

Thursday through Saturday (October 17-19)

Temperatures will gradually lower through this period with the coldest temperatures expected to arrive on Saturday the way it looks now.  No big storms are expected, but a cold front or a few disturbances may affect the Northland at times with possible showers of rain, snow, or ice pellets…Friday Night/Saturday holds the greatest chance at seeing some frozen precipitation.  High temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s Thursday and Friday and in the 30s and 40s on Saturday.  Lows Thursday Night and Friday Night will be in the 30s and 40s.

Long Range Forecast – Confidence:  High.

(October 20-25)

Below average temperatures are forecast through this period.  Looks like a NW or NNW flow continues as well.  Could see a few rain or snow showers at times as our region could be impacted by a couple clipper like systems, but no signs of any major storm systems affecting the Upper Midwest.
