Big news, it’s going to snow Tonight – no this won’t be a blockbuster storm by any means, but there could be just enough snow to cause some tricky travel conditions Tonight and also for the commute to work and or school Wednesday AM.
Remember when looking at the maps below, green colors usually indicate somewhat heavier snowfall compared to blue colors.
Here’s future radar per 12z Hi-Res NAM/WRF model.
5 PM This Evening:
10 PM Tonight:
3 AM Wednesday:
A low pressure system and cold front will be moving through the Northland Tonight which will bring a round of light snow to Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin.
Snow should begin in Western-Northwest areas between 2-5 PM Today. This area of snow will progress farther south and east This Evening and during the Overnight hours.
I don’t think the snow will last for more than a few hours in any given location as this will be a fast moving system, with that said there could be a brief time where the snow comes down at a pretty good clip.
For the Twin Ports: I’m thinking a start time of between 7-9 PM Tonight with snow coming to an end between 1-4 AM Tomorrow Morning.
Snowfall accumulations by daybreak should generally be around 1″ across the Northland with a few spots possibly getting as much as 2″ especially over Northwest Wisconsin and Eastern sections of Minnesota.
*Surface map valid for 12 AM CST Tonight per NDFD/WPC.
Note: I’ll have more later Today on the next system which affects us on Thursday, this one should drop a bit more snow compared to the one Tonight. Right now I’m leaning toward a 2-4″ event on Thursday for Duluth and Superior. Stay tuned.
