Low pressure of 994mb has moved into extreme Southeast Nebraska as of Noon Today. This low will track northeast reaching Southern portions of Wisconsin Tonight.
A broad area of snow stretches from Southwest Minnesota to Northeast Minnesota early This Afternoon with rain over parts of Southern and Central Minnesota. Northwest Wisconsin has stayed relatively dry thus far with patchy fog and drizzle along with some light freezing drizzle the main weather story for that area.
This system will peak from now through about 6-7 PM This Evening meaning that the most significant precipitation will be occurring during the next 4-6 hours or so.
Snow for the Brainerd Lakes, Twin Ports, Iron Range, North Shore, and Arrowhead region in Minnesota and some of this snow could be moderate to heavy at times with snowfall rates approaching 1″ an hour This Afternoon.
Expect fog, drizzle, and some rain in East Central Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin which will transition to snow or sleet from west-east through the rest of the Afternoon as temperatures cool just enough to support frozen vs. liquid precipitation.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 10 PM CDT Tonight for the area shaded in purple on the map below. Use extreme caution if you have travel plans Today as roads will be snow covered and hazardous over parts of the Northland. Visibility will also be reduced to less than one mile at times in falling snow.
