Today’s Weather Summary for NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin

Low pressure of 1006mb was over Western Wisconsin as of 4 PM Today with high pressure of 1032mb covering West Central Montana.  Another dismal day in the Northland with widespread clouds, drizzle, rain, and some fog.  There was also some snow or mixed rain/snow during the Morning hours over parts of the Northland.  Highs were in the 30s and 40s with north winds at 10 to 20 mph.

Forecast Discussion for NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin

Short Term Forecast – Confidence:  High.

Tonight (April 30)

Low pressure at the surface and aloft combined with an upper level trough over the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes will continue to bring rain to the Northland Tonight.  A few locales may see some snow mix in with the rain Overnight, but wintry precipitation should be much more isolated compared to the past few days.  Lows will be in the 30s with north or northwest winds at 10 to 20 mph.

Thursday and Thursday Night (May 1)

An upper level trough along with an area of low pressure will be moving east-northeast and away from the Northland.  This system will continue to bring some rain and showers to the area on Thursday but the coverage and intensity of the rain should decrease during the Afternoon and into the Evening hours.  Mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies are expected Tomorrow with mostly cloudy skies Tomorrow Night.  Highs will be in the 40s and 50s with lows mainly in the 30s.  Northwest winds on Thursday will shift to the west or southwest Thursday Night.  Wind speeds will be in the 10 to 20 mph range.

Extended Forecast – Confidence:  High.

Friday through Sunday (May 2-4)

A few showers are possible Friday and Saturday as a couple of disturbances drop southeast into the Upper Midwest.  Dry weather is expected for Sunday.  Highs will be in the 40s and 50s during this period with lows Friday Night and Saturday Night in the 20s and 30s.

Long Range Forecast – Confidence:  High.

(May 5-10)

Near to below average temperatures are forecast through this period.  Some rain could return to the Northland between the 6th-9th.
