This should be a widespread cold air outbreak this weekend thru early next week, however the most extreme cold could favor the Rockies and western High Plains region (circled area on the map)

Note:  We will have a white Christmas in Duluth.  Official weather observations are taken at the Duluth Airport (higher elevation) where there is 5″ of snow currently on the ground.  The definition of a white Christmas is having at least 1″ snow cover Christmas Morning, so this year will be a white Christmas.  For those that live below the hill (lower elevation) well this Christmas will be a mix of green/brown grass along with patchy snow cover, a lot less snow on the ground below the hill compared to on top of the hill.

Christmas 2013 saw a high temperature of 17 degrees in Duluth with a low temperature of -1.  2.0″ of snow fell; and the snow depth was 20″!  Much warmer and a lot less snow for Christmas Day 2014.
