Forecast Discussion for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin
Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight (February 1)

Monday and Monday Night (February 2)
A weak system drops southeast out of the northern Plains during this period as high pressure pushes off to the southeast. Partly-mostly cloudy skies are expected this period with possible flurries or light snow showers during the Afternoon and Evening hours. Highs on Monday will be in the single digits and teens with lows Monday Night in the single digits below to around 10 above zero. Winds will be out of the southwest at 10 to 20 mph on Monday with winds becoming west or northwest Monday Night at 10 to 20 mph.
Extended Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tuesday through Thursday (February 3-5)
Another weak system passes through the region on Tuesday which could bring some flurries or snow showers to the Northland. Generally dry weather is expected for Wednesday and Thursday. Highs on Tuesday will be in the single digits and teens. Highs Wednesday range from the single digits below to teens above with highs on Thursday in the single digits and teens. Lows Tuesday Night and Wednesday Night will be in the single digits, teens, and 20s below.
Long Range Forecast – Confidence: Medium.
(February 6-11)
Near to possibly below average temperatures are forecast from the 6th-8th with near to possibly above average temperatures from the 9th-11th. A strengthening temperature gradient from SW-NE is expected to develop across the Plains and Upper Midwest, low pressure systems could develop and ride along this temperature gradient. Depending on how things setup this weekend will determine whether or not we get some snow here in the Northland or if we stay mostly dry. The way this winter has gone I’d lean more toward staying dry, but hey I guess the pattern could change at least for a short period of time. Lets hope for the best!
