Here’s what I have for snowfall totals from Friday through Sunday. Heaviest amounts are expected to be north of the Twin Ports.
The North Shore – especially northeast of Two Harbors could pick up 6″ or more of snow by Sunday thanks to persistent easterly winds coming off Lake Superior. Note: The lake enhanced snow threat in Duluth and Superior looks lower compared to what it looked like a few days ago as winds will be more out of the east. But, will have to watch Sunday and Sunday Evening as some models do show winds turning more to the east/northeast which is a more favorable wind direction for lake enhanced snow in the Twin Ports…This could boost snow totals higher than the 1-3″ range which is shown on this map.

A milder day in the Northland as low pressure passes through Ontario which put our area in a strong warm air advection pattern. Highs were in the 20s with a brisk wind out of the west or southwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Sky conditions varied from partly to mostly sunny Today.

Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight (February 5)
A cold front will settle southeast out of northwest Minnesota Tonight as low pressure moves into southern Hudson Bay. Partly to mostly cloudy skies will occur Tonight with lows in the single digits and teens. Winds will be out of the west or southwest at 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts This Evening.
Friday and Friday Night (February 6)
A cold front is forecast to drop south out of central Minnesota and northern Wisconsin during this period as a weak wave of low pressure moves along this southward moving boundary.
Mostly cloudy skies are expected Tomorrow and Tomorrow Night with some snow at times. Accumulations should generally be around 1″ or less during this period. Highs on Friday will be in the teens and 20s with lows Friday Night ranging from the single digits below to single digits above zero in far northeast Minnesota to the teens and 20s further south and west. Winds will be out of the east at 5 to around 20 mph.
Extended Forecast – Confidence: Medium.
Saturday through Monday (February 7-9)
Strong high pressure passes through central/eastern Canada during this period while a frontal boundary remains to the west/south of the Northland. Waves of low pressure are expected to track along this boundary — this combined with a nice temperature gradient with mild air to our SW and arctic air to our NE should set the stage for accumulating snow this weekend. Note: At this time the best chance for significant snowfall accumulations look to be along the North Shore of Lake Superior and Arrowhead, west through portions of the Iron Range and Borderland area. Locations south of those areas could see some snow too but accumulations look to be on the light side. Of more concern could be the potential for some freezing drizzle along and south of Highway 2 this weekend. We should dry out come Monday as we await the next system which approaches from the west come Tuesday.
Should see a wide range in high temps during this period with single digits and teens in northern Minnesota with 20s and maybe even some 30s in southern areas. On Monday, the entire Northland should have highs in the 20s. Lows Saturday Night are forecast to range from the single digits below to 20s above zero. Lows Sunday Night are forecast to range from the teens below zero to teens above zero.
Long Range Forecast – Confidence: Medium to High.
(February 10-15)
A low pressure system is expected to impact the area next Tuesday-Wednesday (10th-11th) Should see some snow across our area during that time frame with a few inches of accumulation possible. Another system could affect us sometime around the 14th-15th with some snow. Near to below average temperatures are expected from the 10th-15th.
