Location: northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin
A sun filled sky but it was a cold one as high pressure of 1034mb builds east out of the northern Plains. Highs Today ranged from the single digits below zero to around 10 above zero. Winds were out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts. With NW winds blowing off Lake Superior Today this has caused some lake effect snow showers Today mainly over parts of Ashland and Iron Counties.

Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight (February 4)
A ridge of high pressure will settle south/southeast of the Upper Midwest during the night. Clear to partly cloudy skies will be found over the Northland with frigid temperatures. Lows will be in the single digits, teens, and 20s below with some 30s below even possible in the traditional cold spots. Northwest winds will turn southwest at 5 to 15 mph.
Thursday and Thursday Night (February 5)
An area of low pressure will pass through Ontario this period while a warm front and cold front attached to this low swing through the Northland. Partly-mostly cloudy skies are forecast Tomorrow and Tomorrow Night with a few flurries or snow showers possible mainly in far northern Minnesota. Highs on Thursday will be in the teens with lows Thursday Night in the single digits and teens. Winds will be out of the southwest Tomorrow at 10 to 20 mph. Winds Tomorrow Night will be out of the west or north at 10 to 15 mph.

Friday through Sunday (February 6-8)
A frontal boundary will setup well west and south of our area while high pressure builds into central and eventually eastern Canada. Still looks like will see a strong temperature gradient develop with mild air to our SW and arctic air to our NE. Waves of low pressure should develop to our NW and shift SE more or less on this temperature boundary. The first system looks fairly weak with mostly light snow expected in parts of the Northland on Friday. A second and perhaps a third system could impact parts of the area between Friday Night and Sunday, however, the tracks of these lows is uncertain with a few models taking them further north while others have them further south.
Note: At the moment it appears that the North Shore, Arrowhead, Iron Range, and Borderland areas have the best chance to pick up several inches of snow this weekend with a lesser chance from the Twin Ports through NW Wisconsin and east central Minnesota.
High temperatures from Friday through Sunday will be in the teens and 20s with single digits possible along the Minnesota/Ontario border. Lows Friday Night and Saturday Night will be in the single digits and teens.

The chance for at least a little bit of snow continues during the 9th-11th time frame although right now this system doesn’t look like it’ll be a big snow producer in our area. Near normal temperatures from the 9th-14th.
