Weather Synopsis
Scattered showers and thunderstorms moved through northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin today with heavy downpours, lightning and gusty winds — Freezing levels were low as well today so several of these thunderstorms dropped non-severe size hail (Mostly pea to dime size) Outside of the downpours there was some sun but also quite a bit of smoke aloft but also the smell of smoke was very evident today. Cooler temperatures returned after the warmer temps this past weekend. Highs today were in the 60s but temperatures dropped into the 50s as the storms moved through.
Note: Rainfall totals during the past 24 hours have generally been in the 0.05 inch to 0.30 inch range in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin with the official total at the Duluth Airport at 0.15 inches through 6 PM today.
Not a lot of change in our weather for the next few days. Basically will have a N/NW flow aloft with an upper low to our E/NE. This type of pattern will keep temperatures on the cool side in our area with some rain showers at times tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lows tonight will be in the 40s to lower 50s. Highs Tuesday ranging from around 50 to 60 degrees with lows Tuesday night in the 40s with 30s possible in the typical cold spots. Highs Wednesday in the 50s to lower 60s. Note: The normal high temperatures in early September are generally around 70 degrees, so the highs the next few days will be 10-20 degrees below normal.
Note: The good news is that we look to be entering a drier weather pattern later this week which could carry over into early the following week (September 8-12 time frame) Temperatures will also modify a bit, perhaps getting back into the 70s this weekend.
