•3rd coldest low temperature on record for May 12 at Hibbing, Minnesota — Low Temperature on Saturday was 23 degrees. The record low for May 12 is 20 degrees set on 5/12/1946, and again on 5/12/1996.
Weather Synopsis
A very pleasant spring day throughout the Northland with a stronger west wind which resulted in warm temperatures even near Lake Superior for a change! Highs today were in the low to mid 70s, roughly 10 degrees warmer than average for mid May. There’s been some passing mid to high level clouds in our area today otherwise a good deal of sunshine on this Mother’s Day 2018.
A quiet weather pattern continues in our area through the next few days with a few exceptions — Isolated showers or possibly a thunderstorm could develop late Monday afternoon over far southern areas, and then Wednesday afternoon-evening could see a few showers or isolated thunderstorms develop over parts of northeast Minnesota. The majority of the Northland, however, should stay dry through Wednesday.
Lows tonight will be in the 40s and 50s with a few spots possibly dipping into the 30s thanks to the continued very dry airmass over the area.
Highs Monday in the 70s to lower 80s, slightly cooler during the afternoon near Lake Superior as a light lake breeze develops.
A stronger lake wind on the way for Tuesday with highs holding into the 40s and 50s near Lake Superior, farther inland highs get into the 60s and 70s.
Note: Looks like a stronger southwest wind develops for Wednesday, and if that does happen, then it will be much warmer again near Lake Superior with highs possibly 80 degrees or warmer, while inland highs will be in the mid 70s to low 80s.
There is a chance for a more widespread rainfall event sometime later this week during the Thursday night through Saturday time frame but still some model differences on timing and where this rain sets up.
