Weather Synopsis
Scattered showers and thunderstorms occurred over parts of the Northland today with some of the stronger storms impacting portions of the North Shore and also in southern areas of northwest Wisconsin. Heavy rain, lightning, gusty winds and hail have been reported with the storms today. Otherwise it was another very warm day with high temperatures in the 80s to near 90 degrees.
Through Memorial Day — More of the same! Very warm temperatures should continue with 850mb temps of +15 to around +25C and 925mb temps from +20 to +28C — Definitely a very warm airmass for late May. Should have no problem getting into the 80s to lower 90s for daytime highs in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin for Saturday and Sunday, about the only thing that would prevent us from doing so would be more cloud cover and greater coverage of showers and thunderstorms which don’t look very likely, instead will have partly to at times mostly cloudy skies with isolated showers and thunderstorms for Saturday, Sunday and Memorial Day.
Overnight lows will also be on the warm side with temperatures during the early morning hours still in the 50s and 60s. Note: Normal lows are in the low to mid 40s in late May.
There could be some relief at times near Lake Superior if or when a lake breeze decides to develop. One is possible late Saturday afternoon/evening, and another one could occur on Memorial Day — If they happen, then temperatures will turn much cooler near Lake Superior, and there could even be some low clouds and or fog development.
