Water vapor satellite loop from June 2, 2018. Quite an impressive system for early June impacting the upper Midwest today with a negative tilted trough pushing slowly across the area with 12-hour 500mb height falls of up to 90 meters per SPC meso-analysis, that’s impressive for this time of year.

Warmer than normal temperatures are expected for the most part through mid June, of course near Lake Superior temperatures could go either way depending on the wind direction, but elsewhere in Minnesota and Wisconsin the forecast calls for generally above normal temperatures for the next 2 weeks or so. Note: Normal highs in the Northland in early June are in the mid 60s to lower 70s. Normal lows generally in the mid to upper 40s.

Weather Synopsis
A rainy and cool early June day over the Northland thanks to an area of low pressure and a potent upper level trough which moved east into the upper Midwest today, there is also a cold front late this afternoon over central Minnesota which is moving toward the east — Strong forcing and moist air along and east of this system led to widespread rain with embedded thunderstorms and heavy downpours over northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin today. Highs were in the 40s in northeast Minnesota and far northern Wisconsin to the lower 60s in the Brainerd area.
Mostly cloudy skies should continue into Sunday morning. Areas of rain, drizzle and showers with some fog will also persist tonight through Sunday morning. Weather conditions should start to improve from SW-NE Sunday afternoon with most of us seeing at least some sunshine by late Sunday afternoon as low pressure and upper level trough exit slowly to the north/east through Sunday.
Lows tonight will range from the upper 30s to around 50 degrees. Highs for Sunday ranging from the upper 40s to mid 60s with the coolest temperatures in far northeast Minnesota.
Monday looks like one of the nicer days in the week ahead with some sun, west winds along with highs in the 70s to around 80 degrees.
