It’s a near perfect setup for real warm temperatures in the Northland on Saturday as a cold front approaches from the northwest while south-southwest winds increase out ahead of that boundary. As long as we get a lot of sunshine on Saturday then we should have no problem hitting 70 degrees or even a couple degrees warmer than that! Note: It might be a little cooler in far northern Minnesota since that area will be closer to the cold front during the afternoon with more clouds and possibly a few showers up in that area.

But at this time of year it’s very common to get dramatic swings in our weather, and Sunday may be one of those days with possible rain and gusty northeast winds which could keep temperatures in the 40s in northern Wisconsin and near Lake Superior while the real nice warm temps get shoved farther south. There is quite a bit of uncertainty with Sunday’s weather, not so much with the temperatures as it will turn cooler Sunday, but more so if there will be any rain or not in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, some computer models do show some rain, others are dry or keep the rain farther south. Stay tuned.

Weather Synopsis for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Wednesday’s rain maker moved into eastern Canada today but a mid-upper level trough remained over the upper Midwest and western Great Lakes today which kept skies mostly cloudy to partially sunny while the heating of the day coupled with colder temps aloft and steep low level lapse rates caused a few spotty showers to pop across parts of the area. Highs today ranged from the mid 40s to mid 50s with the warmest temps in far northern Minnesota.
Tonight: Spotty showers early otherwise partly to mostly cloudy with lows in the lower 20s to lower 30s. North or west winds 5 to 15 mph.
Friday: Should have a lot of more sunshine Friday compared to the last few days. Looking at mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with no rain. Highs in the upper 50s to low 60s with southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
Saturday: Warm temps peak on Saturday as 850mb temperatures climb to around +8 to +12C while 925mb temperatures max out at around +15 to +20C! Southerly winds ahead of a southeastward moving cold front combined with the warm airmass overhead should lead to afternoon temps on Saturday in the mid 60s to mid 70s across the Northland. Note: There is a chance that it will be a lot cooler near Lake Superior, especially along the North Shore because of the south wind, if winds remain south this cooling wouldn’t impact the Duluth area, however, if winds are more easterly, then the cooler lake air would influence the Twin Ports Saturday.
Forecast for Duluth
.Tonight… Isolated showers early otherwise partly to mostly cloudy. Low 30 to 35. Wind north to northwest 5 to 15 mph.
.Friday… Mostly sunny. High 57 to 62. Wind west 10 to 15 mph.
