Portions of the Northland could be treated to a colorful sunset this evening thanks to a plume of wildfire smoke which is pushing south out of northern Minnesota late this Tuesday afternoon, this smoke is coming out of western Canada and is pushing to the east/southeast due to the upper level winds which are out of the northwest today, some smoke/haze could linger across the area into Wednesday.

Not as cold Wednesday morning compared to Tuesday morning when several locations in northern Minnesota had temperatures near the freezing mark, a few locations even dipped into the upper 20s! The cold spot Tuesday morning (May 28) was 27 degrees at Crane Lake, Minnesota.

Lows Wednesday morning will mainly be in the 40s but a few 30s can’t be ruled out in low lying areas, away from Lake Superior.

Keeping an eye on Friday for the potential of some showers and thunderstorms across the Northland.  Timing of the surface fronts and how much moisture and instability can develop ahead of this system will determine where convection develops and how widespread it will be Friday and or Friday night.  At the moment it doesn’t look like there will be any severe weather, but a few of the storms could be on the strong side especially late Friday afternoon or Friday evening.  Stay tuned.
