Radar loop from Thursday, September 5, 2019 (ending around 12:30 PM) It was an active morning and early afternoon in southern portions of the Northland with numerous reports of hail as thunderstorms moved from northwest to southeast today, these storms also produced downpours and cloud to ground lightning.

Dorian will continue to pick up forward momentum through the weekend as it passes close to North Carolina through Friday, after that Dorian will remain offshore as it passes east of the northeast U.S. on Saturday.

Dorian has produced about a dozen tornadoes today in eastern North Carolina. A tornado threat continues tonight in eastern North Carolina.

…Weather Summary…

After a rainy and stormy Thursday in the Northland, the weather the next few days will be quieter.

Areas of fog and drizzle along with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will continue this evening in parts of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin as low pressure continues to track SE out of central Minnesota. This system will be far enough away from the area by late tonight which will end the rain threat.

Mostly cloudy skies are forecast tonight with lows in the 40s and 50s. North, south or east winds will become north-northwest later in the night.

Partly to mostly cloudy skies Friday with isolated afternoon showers possible. Highs will range from the middle 60s to lower 70s with northwest winds 10 to 20 mph.

Cooler Saturday but it still looks like will be dry in the Northland as showers associated with a system moving out of the Northern Plains passes to our south. Highs Saturday in the mid 50s to mid 60s with north winds shifting to the east later in the day. Note: There is a chance for patchy frost Sunday morning, especially in the Arrowhead (inland from Lake Superior) widespread frost is not expected at the moment.

Another rain event looks to impact the Northland sometime in the Monday-Tuesday (September 9-10 time frame) and there could be another rain event toward late next week.

.Tonight… Areas of fog and drizzle this evening with a few showers. Mostly cloudy. Low 50 to 55. Wind east 10 to 15 mph, becoming north 10 to 20 mph late.

.Friday… Partly to mostly cloudy. Isolated afternoon showers possible. High 67 to 72. Wind northwest 10 to 20 mph.

.Saturday… Partly to mostly cloudy. High 60 to 65. Wind north 10 to 15 mph becoming east.
