Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for parts of the Northland

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch (yellow area on map) has been issued for portions of the Northland until 2 AM Sunday.

This watch includes the cities of Cass Lake, Walker, Leader and Brainerd.

Primary threats include

-Scattered damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts to 75 mph possible.
-Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible.
-A tornado or two possible.

MRMS radar loop ending 7:30 PM, Saturday, October 9, 2021.

A squall line with a damaging wind and isolated tornado threat continues to move NE into western Minnesota early this evening. These storms if they hold together will reach the Brainerd Lakes area later this evening (~10-11 PM).

Here’s how those storms in eastern South Dakota and southeast North Dakota look on satellite imagery early this evening.
