A snowy night ahead in the Northland as an area of low pressure moves east out of the Northern Plains and across the upper Midwest.

  • The bulk of the accumulating snow that we see in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin will fall tonight through about mid-morning on Monday.
  • Bursts of moderate to heavy snow are possible in parts of the Northland tonight with roads becoming snow and slush covered. Road conditions will improve through the day on Monday, especially by the afternoon.
  • Lingering showers of snow or a rain/snow mix will continue through Monday afternoon, but little additional snow accumulation is expected.
  • Low temperatures tonight will hold fairly steady in the middle 20s to around 30, with highs on Monday still well below normal for mid-April with highs in the mid 30s to around 40.

For Duluth — Steadiest snow will occur tonight through about 7 AM Monday, thereafter, look for lingering snow showers which could mix with or change to rain showers especially in lower elevation closer to Lake Superior. Total snowfall accumulations of 2 to 3 inches by Noon Monday. East wind gusting 15 to 25 mph tonight which could cause patchy blowing snow. Winds become northwest after 8 AM Monday with gusts to 30 mph from late Monday morning through Monday afternoon.

Will get a break in precipitation on Tuesday and probably even into early Wednesday morning before the next system approaches from the Northern Plains on Wednesday, and this one will likely bring more rain and possibly some wet snow to northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin during the day Wednesday, although it still looks like this next system may be more of a rain event than a snow event for most of the Northland.

Some very cold temperatures in the Northland this Easter Morning, Sunday, April 17, 2022.
