We’ve got one more shot of arctic air ahead which arrives during the day Thursday with falling temperatures and gusty north to northwest winds in the Northland. Coldest temperatures occur Thursday night into Friday morning with temperatures in the -20s and -30s over much of the Northland, and a brisk wind will continue Thursday night which will cause wind chills to drop to between -45 and -50 degrees in much of northeastern Minnesota, and from -30 to -40 degrees over east-central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for all of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin from 6 AM Thursday to 6 PM Thursday.

A Wind Chill Warning will then go into effect from 6 PM Thursday until 12 PM Friday for northern and northeast Minnesota including Duluth.

Potential is there for temperatures at a few locations in northern Minnesota to drop to around -40 degrees Friday morning, otherwise we’re looking at widespread -20s and -30s in the Northland.

A brief period of fluffy flurries or snow showers are possible over the Northland later tonight into early Thursday morning as an arctic front blasts through the area but accumulations if any should be under 1″.

18z NAM 3km model radar forecast through 6 AM Thursday.

Temperatures start off on the frigid side in Duluth, but a warming trend continues to look likely this weekend into next week with a chance for a few days with highs at or above the freezing mark next week.

Looks like our last subzero temperature in this cold stretch will occur Saturday morning in Duluth, with no subzero temps expected next week the way it looks now.
