A quiet weather pattern continues across the Northland today and this quiet weather pattern will likely linger into next week, but it’s a different story farther to the south/east where a strong low-pressure system brought heavy snow to parts of eastern Iowa, southern/eastern Wisconsin into northern Lower Michigan today with reports of 12 to 18 inches or more of snow today in parts of eastern Wisconsin. This snow today is part of the same storm which produced the violent tornadoes Friday night over west central Mississippi and northern Alabama.
High of 43 in Duluth today (March 25, 2023) This is the first time since March 15 with a temperature of 40 or warmer and this is only the 2nd time this month with a temperature of at least 40 degrees. Average number of days with a temperature of 40 or warmer at Duluth in March is 10 days.
So far March 2023 has produced the fewest number of 40-degree days (2) in Duluth since March 1980 (2).
It really is amazing how warm 40-degree temperatures feel in late March. Just imagine how nice 60+ degree temps will feel! Won’t be long now.
Today’s highs in the Northland were within a degree or two of normal (either above or below)
Seasonable temps continue on Sunday with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s, but temperatures will be cooling off starting on Monday and then continuing through midweek, this is when will have highs in the middle 20s to low/mid 30s, but the nights will be even colder with single digit temperatures a good bet in much of the Northland from Monday night through Wednesday night.
Not much precipitation expected in the Northland for the next 5 to 7 days. Might be a few flakes at times, but that’s about it.
Temperatures at the 850mb level (5000 feet) are still on the chilly side today, but the late March sunshine helped to warm surface temps into the upper 30s to middle 40s in the Northland this afternoon.
Active storm track continues well south of the Northland.
