A clipper like system is forecast to move across the Northland Wednesday night into early Thursday morning bringing some rain and snow to the area. Snow chances are highest in the Arrowhead (northeast of Duluth) early Thursday morning with a trace to 2 inches of snow possible.
Temperatures remain on the cool side with lows tonight in the teens and 20s. Highs Tuesday in the 40s with 30s near Lake Superior. Temperatures do warm up Wednesday and Thursday with highs actually getting back to where they should be in late April and that would be in the 50s, and there’s even a chance that a few locations hit 60 degrees Thursday afternoon, but this warmth won’t last as cooler below average temps return starting Friday.
Duluth area: Rain begins Wednesday evening after 7 PM. Rain ends early Thursday morning between 4-6 AM the way it looks now.
NAM 3km model radar forecast valid 1 PM Wednesday to 1 AM Thursday.
Rain (green)
Snow (blue)
Precipitation totals of around 0.10 to 0.35″ are possible in the Northland for Wednesday night-Thursday morning.
Snowfall accumulations of a trace to 2 inches are possible early Thursday morning in far northeast Minnesota.
The next system which could bring more rain and possibly some more snow to the Northland comes late this week into early next week, but the track of this system is still uncertain in model guidance.
A large and potentially deep upper-level trough could develop by this weekend from central Canada to the southern Plains. This trough combined with an area of low pressure could bring more precipitation to northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin in an occasional fashion from Friday into early next week, and some of this precipitation could be in the form of snow this weekend and early next week.
Widespread precipitation totals ranging from around one-half inch to an inch or more remain possible in the Northland late this week into early next week per ensemble model forecasts.
