Cooler temperatures will settle into the Northland on Wednesday thanks to more clouds than sun along with some rain at times, but warmer temperatures return starting on Thursday, and these warmer temperatures should persist well into next week with a chance for highs of 80 or warmer on a few days this weekend into early next week.
Scattered showers and some thunderstorms have been rumbling east across portions of northern Minnesota today and some of these storms have been producing torrential rainfall.

Rainfall rates with some of the storms in northern Minnesota this afternoon have ranged from 0.50″ to over 2″ an hour per radar estimates.
Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will continue in northern Minnesota especially this evening, and then will see some more rain with an occasional thunderstorm mixed in during the day Wednesday.

Rainfall totals of at least a quarter to half inch are looking likely in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin through Thursday with locally higher rainfall amounts of 1-2″ in spots.
Note — Most of this rain in the Duluth area comes on Wednesday, but isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible again on Thursday.
Two pieces of energy one to the northwest in Canada and the other over the western U.S. will be moving to the east/southeast over the next few days. The energy coming out of Canada will affect the Northland the most, while the energy over the western U.S. doesn’t really affect our area at all.
