Generally speaking, we are heading into a nice stretch of weather across the Northland over the next couple of days with high temperatures in the upper 70s to the low-mid 80s along with comfortable nighttime temperatures in the 50s to around 60.
An isolated shower or thunderstorm can’t be ruled out Friday through Sunday, but much of the Northland should stay dry the next few days.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms have been moving east-southeast across the Northland this afternoon. A few of the storms this afternoon has been on the strong side with several reports of mostly sub-severe hail along with brief heavy downpours, frequent lightning and gusty winds.

The scattered storms we’ve been seeing in the Northland today have been developing on the south side of an upper-level low which was spinning just north of Minnesota today.

Scattered rains will end this evening, followed by the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon/evening but coverage of this rain should be considerably less compared to what we saw today.

No change in the drought monitor class in most of the Northland over the past week, or from June 27 compared to June 20, but the exception to this is over a small part of northwest Wisconsin (yellow area on map) where the drought has worsened by 1 class over the past week.
3% of the Midwest is in Extreme Drought, up from 2% last week.
24% of the Midwest is in Severe Drought, up from 15% last week.
64% of the Midwest is in Moderate Drought, up from 58% last week.
