Northwest flow aloft will continue into this weekend. A few disturbances embedded in this NW flow will drop SE across the area Friday and Saturday leading to isolated rain showers Friday, with isolated to scattered showers along with a few thunderstorms for Saturday as we see some higher amounts of CAPE (instability) compared to Friday. Widespread rain is not expected Friday or Saturday, but if you do get under one of these showers you likely will get a brief heavy downpour.
Here’s the 500mb forecast via Nam model through 7 PM Saturday.
Isolated showers are likely in the Northland Friday afternoon into early Friday evening.
Radar forecast valid 12 PM Friday to 11 PM Friday per Nam 3km model.
Rainfall forecast through Saturday evening.
The potential is there for somewhat greater coverage of showers and thunderstorms across the Northland on Saturday, and an isolated strong storm can’t be ruled out during the afternoon-early evening.
Radar forecast valid 7 AM Saturday to 11 PM Saturday per Nam 3km model.
Looking at the 10-day temperature forecast for Duluth, and well it doesn’t look too bad with no extreme or prolonged heat expected through next week, although there is a chance that we could see high temps well into the 80s on a day or two next week, but that type of warmth doesn’t look like it’ll stick around for long.
Note – Only 4 days so far this month with a high of 80 or warmer in Duluth. The average number of days in July with a high of 80 or warmer is 12 days.
