We have one more brief shot of colder more seasonable temperatures ahead for Tuesday, otherwise the rest of this week is looking pretty mild in the Northland.

A cold front will move across the Northland this evening with increasing northwest winds and colder temperatures following this frontal passage, and we could also see a few flurries and snow showers behind this cold front tonight into Tuesday morning, but snowfall accumulations should stay under an inch.

Gusty northwest winds of 15 to 30 mph are expected tonight into Tuesday while temperatures fall into the teens tonight while highs Tuesday range from the upper teens to middle 20s. Tuesday night will be even colder as temperatures dip into the single digits and teens with a few subzero temperatures possible in northern Minnesota, but chances we see subzero temps up north are fairly low at the moment.

But this cold air won’t stick around long as will see temperatures climb into the 30s Wednesday, and mainly in the 40s Thursday, then in the 30s to around 40 Friday and Saturday.

Here comes the colder air working southeast out of central Canada this afternoon.

That is one impressive upper-level ridge showing up on the models for mid to late week as it moves east-southeast out of west central Canada while also strengthening (orange/white colors) as it does so.

December is off to a very mild start not only in the Northland but in much of the Lower 48.

Here in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin we’re seeing temperature anomalies running +8 to +12 degrees warmer than average through the first 10 days of December.

NEXT WEEK’S TEMPERATURE TRENDS

Overall, more of the same when it comes to the temperatures in the Northland for next week with more above normal temperatures in the forecast, but it’s possible will see a brief bout of colder temperatures mixed in on occasion, but overall mild temps look to continue next week.
