Although the pattern continues to look pretty quiet in the Northland through much of next week, there may be one exception to this, and that occurs Friday-early Saturday when a pretty strong upper-level low drops southeast out of the Dakotas while a weak area of surface low pressure also develops over central North Dakota, and this low is then forecast to track toward the southeast.
This system looks to have quite a bit of moisture with it as well as some lift which should help in developing some precipitation in our area Friday-Saturday morning.
Chances are increasing that some parts of the Northland will see some accumulating snow with this system from Friday into Saturday morning, but with a mild air mass in place, this will also lead to other parts of the Northland seeing rain or a mixture of rain/snow.
Speaking of the temperatures, we’re looking at highs in the mid 30s to low 40s on Friday, and in the 30s Saturday with overnight temperatures Friday night and Saturday night mostly in the upper 20s to lower 30s, so the snow that parts of the Northland could get will likely be wet/dense Friday-Saturday morning.

Here’s my preliminary snowfall forecast for Friday-Saturday morning.
Currently it looks like the greatest snow totals will be north of Duluth with 2 to 4 inches of snow possible.
Duluth area — Less than 1″ of snow the way it looks now as we could see more of a rain/snow mix in the city which would lead to lower snow amounts.
