Light snow is likely in the Northland beginning Friday afternoon or early Friday evening and this snow is expected to continue into Saturday before ending Saturday night.
Snowfall accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are expected in the Northland with this event from Friday evening into Saturday, but with east to southeast winds crossing Lake Superior, this could lead to some higher snowfall totals of up to 5 inches due to lake/terrain enhanced snow along the North Shore of Lake Superior especially northeast of Duluth.
Temperatures look pretty mild late this week with highs Friday and Saturday ranging from the middle 20s to lower 30s with lows Friday night in the 20s.
No changes made to my snowfall forecast today for the Friday night-Saturday’s snow event.
A larger winter storm is still possible the early to mid-part of next week in parts of the central Plains, Midwest into the southern/eastern Great Lakes with a combination of heavy snow and gusty winds.
No real changes to the storm track in model guidance today and it still looks like the entire Northland will miss out on getting more snow with this next system for next Monday-Tuesday.
Lots of arctic air bottled up (for now) across northern Canada with temperatures in the -20s and even some -30s today.
It continues to look like will see arctic air push south into the western U.S. next week, but how far east this arctic air gets is uncertain.
There is a chance that the coldest temperatures will stay west of the Northland late next week.

Any arctic air looks to hold off until late next week but whether or not we see temperatures fall below zero in Duluth late next week is uncertain.
